I read the cartoon for Mother Goose and Grimm this morning and it was so sad, so unfair.
“Goose” is a cartoon that has been around for several years now and the cartoonist – Mike Peters – frequently takes a twist on nursery rhymes or other childhood icons.
This week, the scene is at a bar on Halloween. All the girls are flocking to Dracula, because vampires are SO hot right now. Poor Wolfman and Frankenstein are all alone at the bar with their drinks, lonely as can be. Check it out at grimmy.com.
I thought it was just so sad that these fine, lovable monsters cannot find some suitable female companionship on the biggest holiday of a monster's life!
It especially hurts to see Frankenstein ignored like that. I always think of a little kid when I see him. He's just as happy pulling petals from a daisy as being the downtown sophisticate. He'd make a good playground monitor or activities director, because he'd play Pin the Tail on the Donkey right along with the kids. He's just a big kid, you know? So if you've got a job that's hard to fill, give him a look.
And Wolfie -- what can I say? He can't help it he gets a little crazy on Full Moons. I mean, so does everyone else! And besides, this Halloween will be two DAYS past the full, so a lot of us will have gotten the crazy out of our systems by then!
So please, if you see a werewolf, or a factory-made humanoid, or a mummy, or any of the dozens of currently out-of-fashion monsters, invite them to your home or offer to buy them a drink. Whatever you can do to brighten their lonely holiday would mean so much to them. Trust me on this!
