One of the more inspiring sites that one can visit in Wisconsin is the International Crane Foundation. Located in Baraboo, a town more famous for the Circus Museum, the Foundation helps breed and study several species of crane.
Our guide told of working with these birds. They had to do some medical procedure on one bird -- I can't remember what it was, probably drawing a blood sample -- and she was straddling the bird to keep it from running off. Well, she only weighed about a hundred pounds, and when the bird started flapping its wings, she was actually airborne for a few seconds.
