A historical event from 1886, when thousands of union marchers demanded the eight hour day (down from ten to 16 hrs per day as was common then). There were over 1,600 such demonstrations across the country, with this Milwaukee-area march drawing possibly 12,000 participants. However, this ended in tragedy as police fired on the marchers and several people died, including a boy and a man who were not participating in the march.
