A new study enrolled 81 people (aged 13 to 25) who showed early symptoms of psychosis (sleeping much more or less than usual, suspicion, believing someone is putting thoughts in their head or believing they have magical powers). Half were given four fish oil capsules a day for twelve weeks. The other patients received placebos.
Patients were monitored for a year, after which 5% of the 41 patients in the fish oil group had become psychotic, or completely out of touch with reality. Of the placebo group, only 11 of 40 (or 28%) became psychotic.

This is an incredibly benign yet effective approach to helping those with some early signs of mental illness from descending into a full-blown case. Oh, but of course the problem is that Big Pharma does not make enough money from prescribing fish oil capsules.

It should also be noted, with tongue firmly in cheek, that fish in the wild are rarely if ever seen to exhibit psychotic behavior.
