Archaeologists were stunned to discover a prehistoric city when a reservoir was drained -- the Tottiford Reservoir, near Moretonhampstead. So far it has yielded ten burial cairns and artifacts dating from 4,000 to 8,000 years ago.
The headline is rather unfortunate but I suppose they are competing for readers, after all.
The local rep for the Dartmoor National Park Authority is quoted as saying, "There are a lot of earlier recordings in this area of polished stone axes and so on - and I've always wondered why they were there. This place could have been the focus for all that activity."
That link is very entertaining. Thanks, Minnie!
Thanks, Kathleen, glad you liked it and thanks for stopping in.
You're welcome, Minnie. My DH is a Brit and we're planning a trip there next Fall (when the last kid heads off to college). I'll have to add that place to our very long list of cities and towns we wish to visit. Can't wait.
Can I admit to a teeny bit of envy here? Wish I could stow away in your luggage and tour the place too.
