These people are real survivors. The residents of Pearlington, MS have been hit by several hurricanes over the years -- Camille and Frederic and Katrina -- but they just keep picking up the pieces and starting over. Some stop in at the Turtle Creek Bar & Grill for a ham sandwich or just some company. It is one of only three businesses in town whose elementary school was torn away by storms. Volunteers have built 47 homes in the town but only seven are still standing right now. Yet they build and rebuild. Pearlington is just home, and family, and friends.
This is a tiny place that has been ignored by federal and state aid for the most part, but residents and volunteers just keep patching the town back together.
