As white people begin to age, a genuine taste for coffee will emerge. During this time white people
will also develop a self- proclaimed "addiction." This leads to them saying things like "You do not want to see me
before I get my morning coffee." White guys will also call it anything but coffee: "rocket fuel," "java," "joe," "black gold,"
and so forth. It's pretty much garbage all around.
Covers stuff white people like -- coffee, religions their parents don't belong to, and film festivals.
Cute! But I must not actually be a white guy... I hate coffee and never drink it. Never been in a Starbuck's or anything similar. (Ironically, I love coffee ice cream and coffee candy. Go figure.)
But I make it up in the film school category. Majored in film in college and, of course, attended many film festivals!
Spiritually, I believe in the Cosmic Muffin and the Hairy Thunderer.
Two out of three already! -- and I am sure there are lots more criteria in the rest of the book.
You're probably a white guy, Chris, just judging from your handle. Minnesota is pretty white bread altho the Twin Cities has large I mean LARGE components of Hmong-plus-other-Asians and Somalians-Eritreans.
Do you read the blog? Familiar with it at all? I'm not addicted to it but I have read some of them, and I gotta hand it to the writer, he has nailed a certain upwardly-mobile class of white breadism to a Tee.
the coffee candy is the killer there...
Well, I like to think of myself as a beige guy, or in the summer a very light brown guy, but all four of my grand-parents came from Norway, so you can do the math. And you're right, it's really white bread around here. I was born in New York (da Bronx) and lived in Los Angeles for 20 years, so sometimes I feel like I'm living in a bowl of rice, and it feels weird.
Not sure which blog you mean. I go back to the days of FTP, Telnet and Gopher, and I haven't quite mastered the Web 2.0 yet. (I fear the highly addictive nature of it -- I just don't have that much free time on my hands!)
I did just check out the book preview and saw more categories...
4. Assists....didn't really get his point, but when I hear "assist" I think "being helpful".
5. Nah, don't care for Farmer's Markets, but I do like being outside.
6. Organic Food. Yuck. Pass me that Cheese Burger. And put it in a paper bag, please.
7. I feel slightly weird in a large all-white group, but restaurant-wise Pizza is ethnic, right?
8. NO, because the other guy's too old, and I yearn for a president who's not an old white guy.
9. Well, the greatest thing I can do with my free time can be done in- OR out-doors.
10. Wes Anderson movies are OK. Just OK.
11. Guilty. Very guilty. Latinas really make my heart beat, though.
12. I tithe. Does that count?
13. I drank a lot of Good Earth and Celestial Seasonings tea in my younger days.
14. Well, yeah.
Doesn't seem like I hit that many! :-)
